Recycle your batteries!
We will soon be having a battery recycling box in school in the middle block. If you have any household batteries that are ready to be disposed of, please don't throw them in the bin, recycle them in school. They contain metals that we need to reuse. As an alternative to ordinary batteries try using rechargeable batteries, these will save you money and unexpected trips to the shops especially at Christmas and birthdays.

Our trip to the tip!
We were invited by Rhondda Cynon Taff's Streetcare Team to visit their Recycling plant in Bryn Pica, Aberdare to see exactly what happens with our rubbish when it's collected. We were all amazed at the scale of the site and what rubbish was thrown away that could be recycled. We had a go at a mini version of a sorting facility which was a lot of fun! We realised the importance of washing out your recycling items because all of the recycling is sorted by hand. We had a quiz with Mal who asked us lots of questions about recycling and what we thought the recycled items were turned in to. We did very well answering the questions but we also learnt a lot. We had a tour of the site and when we went to the tip we weren't aloud to get out of the vehicle because the smell was awful! We were shocked that people threw out so much when it could easily be recycled into something useful. We are going to look at what we throw away in our school and try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we possibly can. Take a look at our photos below.
